Many of us use Spotlight everyday to find files or applications, but did you know Spotlight is much more powerful than just that. This month, we will show you four great ways to get even more from Spotlight.

1.Unit Conversions:

Open Spotlight by pressing command+spacebar, or by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of the screen.  Type in any unit of measurement or currency, and spotlight will give you a break down of all available conversions.

2.Quick Calculator:

Type a basic math problem into the spotlight window to get a quick answer.  Pressing return at this point will open the Mac calculator utility.

Type the word “weather” into the spotlight window to see a forecast for your local area.  Type in weather followed by the name of a city to see forecasts for that specific area.

4.Natural Language:

This tricks only works on computer running El Capitan.  Type something like “email from Jim in October” and Spotlight shows you email messages that match.  You can also use more complex searches, like “spreadsheet from last week that contains budget,” and you’ll get just what you’re looking for.
