GatorTec started out as SS Technologies back in 2003 by Florida native Jim Dufek. Jim started working on computers at the age of 7 when his older brother taught him how to program in BASIC. Since that time he has taken his computer knowledge and put it to use helping other people with their computer questions and problems. In 1999 Jim moved to Gainesville and in short order found he was spending a considerable amount of time helping other students and professors with their computer problems. He decided to start SS Technologies and move forward with computer sales and service for a career. Since that time, SS Technologies has served the Gainesville community and provided a more one-on-one approach than some “big box” retailers.

Over the years SS Technologies had gone from just Jim to a team of over six. In 2009, Jim decided to take SS Technologies to a new level. He felt a name change was needed, so GatorTec was born.  Why not GatorTech? Well, it was really important to emphasize the more dedicated focus on Technology, Education & Creativity, thus GatorTEC seemed like a better fit. GatorTec is trying to change people’s perception of what a tech store should be. With its primary focus on the customer and making sure that every customer gets the most from their computer, iPhone, iPad or any other technology device, GatorTec is set to revolutionize computer service, sales and training.

With the help of some very creative designers, GatorTec opened a new store in the Tioga Town Center in late 2010. Located just minutes from I-75, the Oaks Mall and the University of Florida, this new location allows GatorTec to continue to provide its outstanding sales and service even closer to the heart of the Gainesville community.
